History

In 1957 the Castroville Lions Club donated two city blocks to the City of Castroville with the stipulation that it be used for sporting activities and events. The Lions Sports Complex was previously used as a football field for St. Louis Catholic High School.

HOUSTON SQUARE

History

Houston Square is the town square in the historic commercial district of Castroville. The square was formerly used as a baseball diamond, a lighted softball field, and a football field by St. Louis Catholic High School in 1947.  

The Castro Garden Club, private donations, and the City of Castroville developed Houston Square into a beautification project.

Events

Several events are held at Houston Square every year including Market Trail Days, Old Fashioned Christmas, and Pet Faire on the Square.


SEPTEMBER SQUARE

History

September Square commemorate the founder of Castroville with a monument that was erected in 1931 by the Order of the Alhambra of San Antonio. In September 1994, a State Historical Marker was placed at September Square in honor of Henry Castro during the sesquicentennial celebration. Two monuments honor veterans of World War I and World War II.

Events

American Legion Post 460 conducts patriotic services on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
