Elections
The City of Castroville is a Type "A" General Law city with a Mayor at-large and five Single District Council Members. The terms of Mayor and Council are for a period of two years. To run for office in a general law city in Texas the candidate must meet these requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States;
- Be at least 18 years old on the date of the Election;
- Be a registered voter in the state of Texas for 12 months and the city in which they reside for 6 months prior to the date of the regular filing deadline or for write-in candidates prior to the date of the election; and
- Be a resident of the city for 12 months to file for Mayor or 6 months in the district in which the candidate wishes to represent.
- Candidates must reside in the district they filed for on the day of the election
General Election for May 2026
Applications will be accepted for the positions of District 3, District 4, and District 5 from January 14, 2026 through February 13, 2026 by 5 pm. Write-In Applications will be accepted until February 17, 2026 by 5 p.m.
The last day to submit an application to Medina County Voter Registrar to register to vote in the May 2026 Election or for requesting transfer of registration in time to vote in a new precinct not in the same county and territory is April 2, 2026.
A Candidate packet is available in the City Secretary's office Monday - Friday and may be picked up between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. starting January 14, 2026 through February 13, 2026. Or you may print off the complete packet shown under Candidate Information on this webpage.
